SCEL urges Powerball® players to play responsibly!

Columbia, SC: More than 37,000 South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) Powerball® players won prizes in Wednesday night’s drawing.

The winning Powerball® numbers were: 7, 8, 17, 29 and 54. The red Powerball® number drawn was 26. And the PowerPlay® number drawn was 2. Nationwide, no one correctly matched all six numbers to win Wednesday night’s Powerball® jackpot estimated at $179 million. Therefore, Saturday’s jackpot is estimated at $203 million.

“A lot of people play when the jackpot reaches their magic number,” said Tony Cooper, SCEL’s Chief Operating Officer. “The odds remain the same—long. Players must play responsibly.”

The current jackpot run began on August 9, 2006. There have been 13 draws to date, and Saturday evening’s draw will be the 14th in the run. In the past 104 draws, Powerball® has had 40 draws over $100 million, and ten draws over $200 million.

The two largest jackpots in Powerball®’s history were reached during the 104 draws. A $340 million jackpot was won on October 19, 2005, and a $365 million jackpot was won on February 18, 2006.

Players have until 9:59 p.m. Saturday, September 23, 2006, to purchase Powerball® tickets.

SCEL officials want to remind players to please play responsibly.
