12 people won more than $11,000 each

Columbia, SC: Twelve employees of Gaston County, North Carolina, are more than $11,000 richer today after pooling together to win $200,000 in the Saturday, February 11, 2006, Powerball® drawing. The 12 officemates: Ron Riviello, Amy Dellinge, Bob Kolb, Linda Sellers, Sarah Carpenter, Juan Garcia, Trudy Bagwell, Ken Hayes, Steve Baucom, Tim Bates, and Rodney Bridges, all of Gaston County and Brian Parker, of Gaffney.

“We all put in five dollars,” said Parker. “I’m the only one who lives in South Carolina so it’s easy for me to get the tickets. I make a copy the tickets and everyone signs a note saying the funds will be equally distributed. ”

On Sunday, February 12, Parker read the numbers in the paper and realized the group had won. “I saw that we had one matching the Powerball number, and I said to myself, ‘That’s all?’” As he looked at the numbers closer, Parker realized one ticket matched all five white balls. The winning Powerball® numbers from Saturday’s drawing were 7, 38, 40, 51, and 52. The Powerball® was 14 and the PowerPlay® was 4.

“The number 14 will haunt me forever,” said Parker.

All 12 players met at a local restaurant before work on Monday to discuss what would be the group’s next steps. Parker told South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) officials the group agreed he and three other members of the pool would come and collect their winnings. After taxes, the 12 lottery players won $136,000.

The estimated Powerball® jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing is $300 million. If this jackpot is hit, it would be the third largest jackpot in Powerball®’s history. Everyone is urged to play responsibly!
