Lottery Industry Ranks SCEL First In The Nation!

Columbia, S.C. (December 5, 2005): The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) ranked first among lotteries worldwide for an increase in percentage growth of total sales and instant ticket sales in 2005’s third quarter, according to La Fleur’s Magazine, a lottery trade publication that annually calculates sales of lotteries around the world.

In the November/December edition, the magazine cited a 17% increase in SCEL’s total sales and a 27% increase in instant ticket sales during the third quarter. La Fleur’s cited the Lottery’s combined instant and online ticket sales from July 1, 2005 through September 30 at $253 million, with instant sales at $160.8 million. SCEL also made the Top 5 in total per capita sales of $2.98 for instant games.

“This is a testament to both our employees and our stakeholders,” said Ernie Passailaigue, SCEL Executive Director. “We are always mindful that these positive statistics translate into new and expanded educational opportunities for the citizens of the Palmetto State,” Passailaigue added.
