COLUMBIA MAN WINS CAR IN LOTTERY PROMOTION!
7/28/2005

The prize was a partnership between LOVE Chevrolet and SC Education Lottery.

Columbia, SC (July 27, 2005): Maurice Waddell, Jr., of Columbia, is the Grand Prize Winner of a brand new 2006 Cobalt SS provided courtesy of LOVE Chevrolet in Cayce. The prize was a corporate partnership between the car dealership and South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL).

“I said a prayer right before I walked in the dealership,” said Waddell. “My prayers have been answered.”

Waddell won the car as part of the Lottery’s “Drive Away with PowerPlay” second-chance promotion. To enter, players had to purchase $5 in Powerball® with $5 in PowerPlay®, a $10 purchase. An entry form dispensed from the terminal and players had to mail the entry in. More than 134,500 entries were received for the seven-week promotion. Each week SCEL drew one finalist. They are:

Kim Austin of N. Charleston
Donnie Coker of Blythewood
Mark Gilstrap of Woodruff
George McCullough of Statesville, NC
Sonya Hammonds of Charleston
Maurice Waddell, Jr. of Columbia
Spurgeon Little of Charlotte

“SCEL is proud to partner with LOVE Chevrolet in a joint “Drive Away with PowerPlay” promotion. The donation of the Chevrolet Cobalt has enabled us the Lottery to return more money to the citizens of the Palmetto State for education enrichment programs,” said Ernie Passailaigue, Executive Director of SCEL. “Second-chance drawings are an excellent method to properly dispose of non-winning tickets, while giving our players added value.”

“I am so grateful to the Lottery and LOVE for doing this,” said Waddell. “I needed this car. The car I have now is on its last wheel.”
