SCEL URGES PLAYERS TO PLAY RESPONSIBILY!
10/5/2004

Columbia, SC (October 5, 2004): The Powerball jackpot rolls to an estimated $177 million for the Wednesday, October 6, 2004 drawing. Also, the cash value of the one time lump sum amount is estimated at $96.8 million. All winnings are subject to state and federal tax withholdings.

Out of 80 drawings since calendar year 2004 began, next Wednesday's drawing will be the 9th drawing of $100 million or more. Our last major jackpot was on May 8, 2004 and was $213.2 million.

Due to the large jackpot and anticipated increase in sales for Wednesday’s drawing, SCEL officials ask players to purchase early and avoid the last minute rush. The lottery also reminds players to play responsibly.

Here are some other interesting Powerball facts:

• The current Powerball jackpot run began on Wednesday, August 18. Saturday night’s drawing was the 14th consecutive drawing without a hit.
• If the jackpot is hit on Wednesday, it will the 9th largest Powerball jackpot ever won.
• Since January 1, the Powerball jackpot has been awarded 7 times.
• SCEL launched Powerball in South Carolina on October 5, 2002. Since then, the Powerball jackpot has been awarded to three SCEL players.
