Bring your family to EdVenture Children’s Museum for only $5.
Thursday, August 12, 2004
5:00pm – 8:00

Columbia, SC – Treat the kids to a “back to school” evening of hands-on fun that won’t break the bank. EdVenture, as part of its quest to provide quality activities to all families, no matter how big or small, has teamed up with the South Carolina Education Lottery to extend the hours of the museum on the second Thursday of every month. Join us for special activities and a chance to enjoy all our museum has to offer for only $5 a family!

In addition to the discounted admission, this Thursday, EdVenture and SCEL are asking the public to drop of a school supply to support the local Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands.

“This is just an extension of a supply drive the lottery’s push all summer long,” said Tara Robertson, SCEL’s Public Relations Manager. “The supplies will be used by members of local Boys and Girls Clubs statewide.”
The evening will also feature several special visitors, including the amazing stilt-walking, balloon-twisting Steve Harris and EdVenture’s own Flutter the Dragonfly. Outside, EdVenture’s young MAPs (Museum Apprentice Program) will cool the crowds with free Kool-Aid while manning the temporary tattoo station inside. Last but certainly not least, Columbia Marionette Theater will perform one of their most exciting puppet shows entitled “The Circus EdVenture.”
Visitors also will have the opportunity of meeting “dr. doug,” an arctic scientist who, along with EdVenture and the University of South Carolina Honors College, is presenting a program entitled “Go Polar!” He and his friend, a real 100-year-old stuffed polar bear, are part of the National Science Foundation grant-funded partnership presenting “Meet the Arctic Scientist” and many other informal learning opportunities at EdVenture. For a complete list of this or any of EdVenture’s Family Nights or “Go Polar!” programs, call 779-3100 ext. 1157, or visit www.edventure.org and click on Calendar.
EdVenture’s mission is to inspire children to experience the joy of learning. Regular hours of operation are Monday – Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm; Sunday, Noon to 5 pm. EdVenture is open Mondays from Memorial Day through Labor Day and all federal and school holidays.

Since January 2002, SCEL has transferred more than $594 million to the State Education Lottery Account for distribution according to South Carolina Legislation.
