Spinx donates money to local charities and store clerks

Anderson, SC: The SC Education Lottery (SCEL) presented the Spinx Company, Inc. a check for $50,000 on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 for selling the winning Powerball® jackpot ticket for the June 26 drawing. The check presentation was held at the Spinx Sunoco Station #216 located on 6425 Highway 24 in Townville.

“I am proud to be associated with the Spinx family,” said Ernie Passailaigue, SCEL’s Executive Director. “They have been great partners in helping the lottery to fund more than 300,000 scholarships statewide.”

SCEL offers a one percent Selling Bonus for any redeemed winning ticket worth $10,000 or more. Selling Bonuses are capped at $50,000. This is SCEL’s third time presenting a $50,000 check to a lottery retailer for selling a winning jackpot ticket. However, this is the first time a corporate account has received the “top prize.”

“We’re giving this money back,” said Stewart Spinx, President and CEO of The Spinx Company, Inc. “We are giving the five employees of this store $1,000 each and the other $45,000 will go to the Spinx Foundation.”

Ron Hurtado, the store manager of Spinx #216 says his wife has already made plans for his new found money. “She wants to redo the front porch,” says Hurtado. “This money helps encourage my staff to suggest it (lottery sales) to our customers.”
