SOUTH CAROLINA EDUCATION LOTTERY AND PALMETTOPRIDE

Nearly a Million Tickets off the Streets Helping Reduce Litter

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolinian lottery players showed their pride and helped keep South Carolina clean by participating in the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) and PalmettoPride’s yearlong initiative aimed at taking action against litter.

Last July, the two organizations launched Clean$weep, an effort that encourages South Carolinians to help reduce the amount of litter by submitting their non-winning instant game tickets for a chance to win a cash prize. The last drawing is June 30, 2004. Clean$weep entries must be received by 5 p.m. on June 29. To-date, more than 900,000 tickets were mailed to the SCEL for the monthly drawings.

“The people of South Carolina really embraced this anti-litter effort,” said Ernie Passailaigue, SCEL Executive Director. “Clean$weep is a great opportunity to encourage South Carolinians to be environmentally responsible while having fun.”

"PalmettoPride would like to thank everyone that participated in Clean$weep," said Senator David L. Thomas. "We encourage all South Carolinians to follow the lead of these dedicated citizens and make a commitment to keep South Carolina litter-free."

By submitting five non-winning tickets, entrants have the chance to win in the Clean$weep second-chance drawing. Each month, SCEL draws 100 entries and award each winning entrant $50.

To participate in the Clean$weep second-chance drawings, entrants must at least 18 years old and collect five non-winning instant game tickets in any combination. Entrants must fill in the back of at least one ticket with their name, signature and complete address. Once completed, the non-winning tickets should be placed in an envelope and mailed to the SCEL or dropped into a Clean$weep receptacle. Each envelope counts as one entry and is good for only second-chance drawing. More than five qualifying tickets in an envelope will not count as multiple entries.

Entries may be mailed to the South Carolina Education Lottery at P.O. Box 11488 Columbia, S.C. 29211 or dropped off at Clean$weep receptacles at various promotional events across the state. For event schedules and locations, as well as additional information regarding Clean$weep, visit the SCEL Web site at www.sceducationlottery.com. Again, the last drawing is June 30, 2004. Clean$weep entries must be received by 5 p.m. on June 29.

The SCEL and PalmettoPride are working together for another exciting Clean$weep promotion in 2004-2005.
