SCEL TO LAUNCH "Side of GRITS" at VISTA AFTER 5!
6/1/2004

Columbia, SC (June 1, 2004): Summer is here and it’s time to celebrate! The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) is launching a CD full of great summer grooves. On June 3, join the SCEL for the summer CD launch party at the Vista After 5 concert series.

The CD, a Side of GRITS (Grooves Raised in the South), provides a compilation of South Carolina musicians to showcase their many talents. This array of southern flavors provides a taste of music from the Upstate down to the Lowcountry.

The CD features bands such as the Men of Distinction, Second Nature, Bill Pinkney and the Original Drifters, Darius Rucker, Danielle Howle and Ricky Godfrey and other South Carolina musicians.

“The Education Lottery recognizes the many talents this state has to offer. This is a great partnership with the lottery and musicians from South Carolina,” said Ernie Passailaigue, SCEL’s Executive Director. “Education is instrumental.”

The CD cover was designed in-house and carries the tune of SCEL’s beneficiary message.

While the purpose of SCEL is to raise funds for educational opportunities in South Carolina, SCEL hopes this CD will not only help you to celebrate the summer, but the many wonders of the state we all call home.

The June 3 concert begins after 5 with The Men of Distinction band playing for the evening. The Vista After 5 concert series is held in the parking area behind Jillian’s Entertainment Complex at 800 Gervais Street in Columbia from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All concerts are free and open to the pubic. For a chance to win a free copy of the Side of GRITS, adults can bring $10 worth of Carolina Millionaire qualifying tickets to the event.
