Columbia, SC: This weekend, South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) Pick 3 players literally broke the lottery’s bank! On Saturday, March 27, 2004, the evening Pick 3 winning numbers were 7 – 6 – 9.

“7 – 6 – 9 is a popular ‘dream book’ number. Other than triples, it is the most popular three digit combination played by number players,” shared Tony Cooper, SCEL Chief Operating Officer.

Pick 3 players wagered more than $324,600 for Saturday’s evening draw. Players won $765,550. That’s slightly more than double what lottery sales brought in for the draw.

The last time Pick 3 players broke the lottery’s bank was January 16, 2004. The winning combination was 8 – 8 – 8.

“The Pick 3 hit is an example of why they call our enterprise a lottery. The bigger story still remains that we have transferred over half a billion dollars to education, while still paying out over 57% in prizes to our players, “ said Ernie Passailaigue, SCEL Executive Director.

Since January 2002, the SCEL has transferred more than $502 million to the State’s Education Lottery Account for distribution according to South Carolina Legislation. The SCEL’s net proceeds pay for specific educational programs, including South Carolina’s HOPE, LIFE and Palmetto Fellows Scholarships; the National Guard Scholarship Program; Lottery Tuition Assistance for two-year programs within the state’s university system; a wide range of technical upgrades for state colleges and universities; school buses; local libraries and gambling addiction services.
