Columbia, S.C. – NASCAR fans can soon see the South Carolina Education Lottery’s logo on driver Mike Wallace’s NASCAR Busch Series car. In partnership with Mike Wallace and Biagi Bros., the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) has agreed to become an associate sponsor for his car at two upcoming Darlington races.

The associate sponsorship involves a two-race deal with Wallace and Biagi Bros. that will include the Darlington race on Saturday, March 15, 2003 and the Darlington race on Saturday, August 30, 2003. Race fans can view the SCEL logo on the deck lid of the car as well as the web address will appear on the TV panel.

On Wednesday, March 12, 2003, Mike Wallace will be in Columbia conducting several radio interviews across the state. In addition Wallace will be taping several Public Service Announcements with the SCEL’s “Play Responsibly” message and he will also host the Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawing at 6:59pm.

Wallace will begin his day with lunch at Carolina Wings on Assembly Street in downtown Columbia with WCOS contest winners Britney Bundrick, Jim Davis, Timothy Dinkins, David James, Lisa Jones, Linda Kilmer, Bruce Knoblock, Lisa Kuhn, Tony Spears, and Judy Spires. This past weekend, WCOS held a contest to see who would win lunch with Mike.

Pat Koop, director of marketing and sales for the SCEL, said that she is excited about working with Mike Wallace. “This opportunity allows us to reach more consumers. Most lottery fans are also NASCAR fans and that makes for a perfect combination,” said Koop. Since his career began, Mike Wallace has had much success including six top 10’s in the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup.

Since January 2002, the SCEL has transferred more than $201 million to the State Education Lottery Account for distribution according to South Carolina Legislation. The SCEL’s net proceeds pay for specific educational programs, including South Carolina’s HOPE, LIFE and Palmetto Fellows scholarships; the National Guard Scholarship Program; Lottery Tuition Assistance for two-year programs within the state’s university system; a wide range of technical upgrades for state colleges and universities; school buses; local libraries and gambling addiction services.
