SCEL urges players to PLAY RESPONSIBILY!

Columbia, SC: With the Powerball® jackpot estimated at $280 million, an all time high for the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL), lottery officials are urging players to play responsibly.

“Like any other lottery product, this is only a game and shall be viewed in that manner,” emphasized SCEL Executive Director, Ernie Passailaigue. “The odds of winning the big jackpot are 1 in 120 million and you should only play this for fun and entertainment.”

No one correctly matched the five white balls: 5, 22, 34, 39, 52 and the red Powerball- 30 to win Saturday’s estimated $215 million jackpot. However, in South Carolina, 123,340 people won $915,430. Of those winners, an additional $1,905,268 was won because they chose to power up with Power Play, bringing the total winnings to $2,820,698.

Here are some highlights on Powerball:
• 3,474 active lottery retail outlets
• Since Powerball started on October 5th, SCEL gross sales have increase from $ 9 million a week, to almost $ 22 million a week.

According to SCI Games, Powerball tickets were being sold at a rate of approximately 9,800 tickets a minute Saturday evening at 6PM.

The next Powerball® drawing will be December 25, 2002. For more information on Powerball®, visit there website at: www.powerball.com
