Lottery Winner Waits Nearly Five Months to Cash in Ticket Worth $300,000

COLUMBIA, SC (June 1, 2018) – The wait is over for an Orangeburg man, who nearly five months ago won the Lottery but didn’t collect his $300,000 in prize money until yesterday.

The winner told lottery officials he discovered he won the top prize playing Palmetto Cash 5 back in early January, but selected yesterday’s date on the calendar as the day he would collect his winnings. He says May 31 has special meaning for him.

“Waiting was hard,” he admitted. “Every once in a while I would get the ticket out and look at it to a make sure it was still safe and still a winner.”

He purchased the Palmetto Cash 5 ticket at the Gaz-Bah #14 on Chestnut St. in Orangeburg for the January 12 drawing and matched all five numbers drawn (1, 3, 15, 16, and 38). He also Powered-Up for an additional $1 to increase his $100,000 prize to $300,000 when a 3x multiplier was drawn.

“I’m going to use this money wisely,” he said, having had plenty of time to mull over all the possibilities.

The odds of winning $300,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,606,214.

For selling the claimed ticket, Gaz-Bah #14 in Orangeburg received a commission of $3,000.
