Summerville Woman Skips Work to Cash in Powerball® Win
1/10/2018 8:58:52 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (January 10, 2017) – A Summerville woman was getting ready to go to work when she checked her Powerball® ticket and her plans changed.

“I took the day off,” she said.

Then she drove to Columbia to cash in a $150,000 winning ticket.

She told lottery officials that she bought a Powerball® ticket for a chance at Saturday’s whopping $559 million jackpot and can’t believe she came within one number of winning it all.

Her ticket matched four of the first five white ball numbers drawn and the red Powerball® number (12, 29, 30, 33, 61 and Powerball®: 26). As a result of paying an extra dollar for PowerPlay®, her $50,000 winnings became $150,000 when a “3” was drawn.

“I never take a day off,” she admitted.

But she’s going to be taking even more.

“I’m going on a vacation,” she said.

The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. Purchasing PowerPlay® multiplied the $50,000 prize to $150,000. The odds of a 3X multiplier being selected are 1 in 3.23, when the jackpot is over $150 million.

For selling the claimed ticket, Sunoco in Summerville received a commission of $1,500.

The estimated jackpot for tonight’s Powerball® drawing is $40 million.
