11 Co-Workers in Sumter Share $150,000 Powerball® Prize

COLUMBIA, SC (October 18, 2017) – A group of 11 co-workers in Sumter are sharing a $150,000 Powerball® prize won Saturday night.

Before taxes, that’s $13,635 each.

“I’m ready for the money!” shouted one of the 11 co-workers.

The group, that’s played Powerball® together religiously for the last three years, met Monday and made plans to travel to Columbia today to cash in their winning ticket.

They found out they were “thousandairs” on Sunday. Some woke up to the news, some were at church, and others were at work when they got the call or text from the member who buys and keeps the tickets saying they’d won.

“I cried the rest of the church service,” said one of the winners.

Another ran down the hall at work hollering he’d won the Lottery.

Their Powerball® ticket with PowerPlay® matched four of the five white ball numbers and the Powerball® number drawn on Saturday, October 14 (32, 37, 56, 66, 69 and PB 11) to win $50,000. As a result of spending the extra $1 to purchase PowerPlay®, the prize was tripled when a “3” was drawn.

Winners age from 33 to 67 years old, and they are planning to buy Christmas presents, new cars, and be debt free.

Not surprisingly they are getting requests to join their lottery group, but they all agree membership is closed.

“We are buying lunch for everyone,” said a winner. “Happy meals all around!”

Odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. Odds of a “3” multiplier being drawn when the jackpot is less than $150,000 are 1 in 3.31.

Youngs #3619 in Sumter received a commission of $1,500 for selling the claimed ticket.
