63 Costco Co-Workers Share $2 MILLION Powerball® Prize
8/23/2017 2:45:39 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (August 23, 2017) – A group of 63 co-workers at a Costco in Charlotte, NC, are sharing a $2 million Powerball® prize won Saturday night.

Before taxes, that’s about $31,000 each.

What’s even more impressive is this isn’t the store’s first win. In 2013, 24 co-workers shared a $2 million Powerball prize also won in South Carolina. About seven members from that group were a part of this recent win.

“The third time’s the charm,” laughed one of the four co-workers that traveled to Columbia to cash in the winning ticket today.

All 63 members contributed $5 to buy Powerball® tickets from the 7-Eleven 35581A on Carowinds Blvd. in Fort Mill, their practice when the jackpot gets high.

Sunday at work they learned they had won. Sitting in the breakroom, the group member who bought the tickets sat down to check them. The first ticket checked was the $2 million winner, beating the 1 in 11.6 million plus odds to match the first five white ball numbers drawn on Saturday, August 19 (17, 19, 39, 43, 68 and PB: 13).

“I checked it twice,” she said. “And, I haven’t slept since.”

Winners age from 18 to 68 years old, and they are planning to take trips, invest, and be debt free. One winner is splurging on cable television, so he can watch all the football games this fall.

“We’ve got our tickets for tonight,” they said ready for the $700 million jackpot drawing.

7-Eleven #35581A in Fort Mill received a commission of $20,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 1.7 million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $4.6 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
