Upstate Lottery Winner Headed Back to Class
8/24/2016 8:57:59 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (August 24, 2016) – An Upstate woman is furthering her education with a $250,000 South Carolina Education Lottery win.

The recent college grad is going back to school to earn a master’s degree.

“And I’m taking a vacation too,” she said.

The winner told lottery officials she bought her first lottery ticket when she turned 18 and one or two more before purchasing a winning Diamond Dollars ticket at the Inman Fast Stop on Asheville Hwy. in Inman this week.

She screamed when she scratched off the quarter-million-dollar payoff.

“Since my parents buy lottery tickets, I thought why not,” she said, adding it was the last number on the ticket that won it for her.

Her mom cried and hugged her when she brought home the win.

Her dad though she was joking.

“Then he went out and bought a ticket,” she laughed. “I still don’t believe it.”

The Inman winner claimed the last top prize of $250,000 in the $10 Diamond Dollars game. The odds of winning $250,000 were 1 in 696,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Inman Fast Stop in Inman received a commission of $2,500.
