Easley Couple Texts Kids They Won the Lottery

COLUMBIA, SC (July 25, 2016) – An Easley couple who won the Lottery thought of the perfect way to tell the kids—they texted them.

And they had a little fun too. The first text was a link to a news story on an Easley retailer selling a $100,000 winning ticket. They waited 15 minutes and texted a photo of Dad holding the winner’s check.

“Winning hasn’t completely set in yet,” admitted Alfred Castle, when he cashed in his winning Palmetto Cash 5 ticket on Friday.

Last Tuesday he says he was at home checking the results online when he realized his ticket matched all five numbers drawn that evening (5, 17, 29, 34, and 37).

“Come here now!” he screamed to his wife.

And her jaw dropped open when he told her how much they’d won.

“I’m giving her $1,500 to spend anyway she wants,” said Castle. “And we’ll share with the kids too.”

Had Castle Powered-Up for an extra $1, his winnings would have tripled to $300,000.

The odds of winning $100,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.

For selling the claimed ticket, B Pams Food Mart in Easley received a commission of $1,000.
