Mega Millions® Draws for $540 Million Tonight
7/8/2016 2:01:37 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (July 8, 2016) – If you haven’t heard, tonight’s Mega Millions® jackpot drawing is for an estimated $540 million.

“As excitement and word of this jackpot spreads, with a cash payout of $380 million, players that don’t typically play will take a chance,” said SC Education Lottery Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea.

Bethea cautions players to not overspend on tickets. “The odds of winning are the same if you buy one ticket or 20. So please, play responsibly,” Bethea emphasized.

Winning it all is a longshot at 1 in 259 million.

It’s been almost three years since South Carolina sold its last jackpot-winning ticket, a Powerball® ticket worth $399 million. South Carolina has yet to celebrate a Mega Millions® jackpot win. But even if the state does not sell the jackpot-winning ticket, it could still celebrate a $1 million or a $5 million winner. So check your tickets, there are eight ways to win in addition to the jackpot prize.

South Carolinians wanting to take a chance on tonight’s $540 million jackpot must purchase a $1 ticket by 10 p.m. for the 11 p.m. drawing.

And if no one matches all six numbers tonight to win the game’s third largest jackpot, the next drawing could come close to the $656 million record set by Mega Million® in March of 2012.

Good luck, South Carolina.

Please, play responsibly.
