USC Student Wins $150,000 Powerball® Prize
5/3/2016 8:48:56 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (May 3, 2016) – A University of South Carolina student won $150,000 in Saturday’s Powerball® drawing.

The Lexington resident says he bought a lottery ticket at his mom’s urging, while the family was grocery shopping at the Publix on Hwy. 378. Sunday morning his mom checked the numbers on the ticket and ran through the house waking everyone up.

Four out of the five white ball numbers and the red Powerball® numbers were a match for those drawn Saturday night (3, 12, 16, 32, 34, and PB: 14). Spending the extra $1 for PowerPlay® tripled the $50,000 prize to $150,000.

“I feel like I’m going to throw up,” said the winner’s mom when she arrived with her son at the Lottery’s Claims Center.

“My knees are shaking,” said the winner’s sister.

The winner is taking the win in stride and says he plans to pay off his student loans and take the whole family on a vacation.

“I’m so proud of him,” said Mom.

Dad’s reaction, “We need a new lawn mower.”

The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number are 1 in 913,129. The odds of a 3X multiplier being selected are 1 in 3.23 when the jackpot is above $150 million.

For selling the claimed ticket, the Publix Super Markets Inc. #1383 in Lexington received a commission of $1,500.

The estimated jackpot for Wednesday night’s Powerball® drawing is $348 million.
