Greenville Store sells winning Carolina 5 $100,000

Columbia, SC: On July 19, 2002, the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) computer records showed a Carolina 5 winning ticket was sold at the Southern Convenience Store #187 on 1500 Buncombe Road in Greenville.

“I can’t believe this,” said store manager Donna Hastinap. “I can’t wait to find out who bought the winning ticket from our store.”

This is the second time someone has won the top prize in Carolina 5 since the start of the game. A Columbia man won $100,000 on June 21, 2002.

More than $211,000 dollars was won in Friday’s draw. In addition to the top prize winner, more than 7,600 players won cash prizes for matching three and four numbers. Here are those prize payout categories:

- 228 players matched four-of-five numbers to win $100
- 7,426 players matched three-of-four numbers to win $5

The $100,000 winner must claim their prize at the new Columbia Redemption Center, located at 717 C Lady Street, Columbia. The phone number is (803) 253-4004.

In its first six months, the SCEL has returned over $80 million dollars to the state of South Carolina for education. All SCEL profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include South Carolina’s HOPE, LIFE, Palmetto Fellows, National Guard scholarship programs; Lottery Tuition Assistance for 2 year programs within the state’s university system; a wide range of technical upgrades for state colleges and universities; school buses; local libraries and gambling addiction.
