Powerball® Jackpot Grows to $450 Million Amid Strong Sales

COLUMBIA, SC (January 5, 2016) – Lottery players from coast to coast are lining up for the hottest jackpot of the New Year. Strong ticket sales leading up to Wednesday night’s Powerball® drawing have pushed the jackpot to $450 million, making it the fourth-largest jackpot in Powerball® history.

The winner will have a choice between a cash payout of $275 million or the full jackpot amount paid in 29 payments of about $15 million each.

The run up to the $450 million jackpot began November 6 and has rolled 17 times without a winner.

Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 293 million. The odds of winning any Powerball® prize are approximately 1 in 24.9.

Powerball® is played in 47 jurisdictions serving a population of more than 304 million.

South Carolinians looking to take a chance on the $450 million jackpot, must purchase their $2 tickets by 9:59 p.m. on Wednesday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing.
