Hanahan’s “Lotto King” Wins Big
12/17/2015 10:48:05 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (December 17, 2015) – Hanahan’s “Lotto King” turned in his crown.

This week Rory Mains says he’s bought his last lottery ticket. And it was a doozy, worth $250,000.

“I knew I was going to win big one day,” the Lotto King said. “When I realized I had, I started shaking.”

Seven years of stopping to buy lottery tickets while traveling as a Project Manager for Family Dollar landed Mains in Ridgeland on Wednesday at the Short Stop on Jacob Smart Blvd.

There he scratched a $10 Diamond 9s ticket and asked the clerk to hand him a pen. He signed his name to back of the winning ticket, shook the retailer’s hand and then called his boss to ask for the rest of the day off.

On the drive to Columbia to collect a quarter-of-a-million dollars, Mains thought about what he would do with the cash. Saving for his young son, being debt free, even investing for the future crossed his mind.

“I’m done,” spoke the Lotto King. “You play to win something like this, and when you win it, you should be done.”

Two top prizes of $250,000 remain in the Diamond 9s game, at odds of 1 in 696,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Short Stop in Ridgeland received a commission of $2,500.
