“Pick 3” Players Celebrate the Holiday Weekend wit

Columbia, SC: This Fourth of July weekend proved to be a winning weekend for some South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) players. Thousands of Pick 3 players played the number “4” and it paid off for them.

On Saturday, July 6, 2002, the lottery’s Pick 3 numbers were 4-4-4. And for “Pick 3” players who bet on the number 4-4-4, they won 260% more than the lottery took in sales according to the lottery’s gaming system.

“For the first time, our players broke the bank.” said Tony Cooper, SCEL’s Chief Operating Officer. Cooper said "Pick 3" players wagered $175,369 for the drawing; they won $673,750. “This is the highest percentage payout since the "Pick 3" game was introduced,” according to Cooper.

The SCEL’s Pick 3 game grossed over $27.8 million dollars in sales in the first 6 months of operation. Of that, $13.1 million dollars was paid in prizes.
