$1 Million Mega Millions® Winners Retiring on the Lake
9/1/2015 4:19:52 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (September 2, 2015) – A North Carolina couple won $1 million playing the South Carolina Education Lottery.

Cheaper gas prizes drew the couple across the state border to Clover, SC, for a fill up at the Local Market 2 on Hwy. 321, where they also bought a Mega Millions® ticket for Friday night’s drawing.

The husband checked their ticket online over the weekend. With an ink pen he circled the numbers on his ticket that matched, and when he was done five numbers in a row 13, 35, 40, 60, and 68 were circled. He missed the jackpot by failing to match the Megaball® number of 9.

“He yelled,” said his wife, who was in another room and went to check on him.

She described the moment as overwhelming. Her husband handled the million dollar discovery quite well. He already knew what the $1 million prize meant for them.

“For years, we’ve been dreaming of a home on the lake,” the husband said.

The couple is starting their home search right away.

The odds of winning $1 million playing Mega Millions® are about 1 in 18.5 million.

For selling the claimed ticket, Local Market 2 in Clover received a commission of $10,000.
