South Carolina Education Lottery Has Record Setting Year

COLUMBIA, SC (July 31, 2015) – Fiscal Year 2015 was a great year for the Education Lottery which broke all records for educational funding. July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015, saw record ticket sales and record deposits into the Education Lottery Account. Additionally, lottery retailers earned record commissions, while happy lottery customers won unprecedented amounts in prizes.

Education Lottery Account transfers grew $26 million from last year to almost $349 million – the highest annual amount in lottery net proceeds transferred since SCEL launched. More than $3.8 BILLION has been deposited in the Education Lottery Account since 2002. This money, appropriated by the General Assembly, impacts various educational opportunities for higher education, K-12 education and community education such as county libraries.

Lottery customers walked away with more than $924 million in prizes during FY15, a $113 million increase in winnings when compared to the previous year.

Lottery retailers saw record commissions from lottery sales. More than $98.8 million was earned by lottery retailers in commissions and incentives in FY15.

Overall lottery revenue resulted in more than $1.4 billion in ticket sales, permit fees and other items. This year’s ticket sales outgrew last year’s sales by $137 million
