In a Stack of Tickets, Myrtle Beach Man Finds a $1 Million Winner

COLUMBIA, SC (July 14, 2015) – Customers at the Scotchman 3225 on Postal Way in Myrtle Beach can stop wondering if the $1 million Powerball® ticket sold there has been claimed. A local man came forward last week to cash in the elusive ticket.

Over a month has passed since the drawing on Saturday, June 6 that produced the millionaire. So where was the owner and ticket all this time?

The ticket was at the bottom of a stack of old lottery tickets.

The owner didn’t know he had it until an announcement on the radio about a $1 million unclaimed prize prompted him to check the tickets he’d been saving. At home at his computer he realized he had that very ticket.

He says all he could do was sit and stare at the Powerball® ticket.

His wife, “she giggled,” he said.

The win has not only secured the couple’s retirement but could open the door to a new home.

“I’ve been playing since the Lottery started in South Carolina,” the winner said. “The most I’ve won before was $12.”

Had the millionaire spent an extra $1 for PowerPlay® his prize would have doubled to $2 million. Had the Powerball® number matched, the jackpot would have been his.

“I try not to think about that,” the winner said. “I’m just glad to know my footsteps had a little luck in them.”

The winning ticket matched the five white ball numbers drawn but missed the red Powerball® number. The winning numbers were 8, 13, 18, 27, and 43, and the Powerball® number was 15.

The odds of winning $1 million are 1 in 5,153,633.

The estimated jackpot for Wednesday night’s Powerball® drawing is $60 million.
