425 Non-Winning Lottery Tickets Made Winners Today
2/18/2015 11:35:26 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (February 18, 2015) – The South Carolina Education Lottery will turn 425 losing lottery tickets into winners today in the Instant Replay Second-Chance Promotion.

How does it happen?

Lottery players, about 11,000 of them, are going on the Internet to sclottery.com and registering non-winning $1 and $2 tickets or scanning their tickets using a free SCLottery app to enter monthly drawings for a chance to win cash or points redeemable for merchandise.

An Irmo man won cash in last month’s drawing. Instead of going to the bank, he took his $5,000 lottery winnings straight home to his wife.

He guessed her response. “She’ll tell me about our upcoming bills,” he said.

While this was the Irmo man’s first time entering the promotion that began in September and runs for one year, a Greenville man has been entering his non-winning tickets since the start.

In December, the Greenville winner won $3,000 his family spent at Christmas. He bettered that in January winning $10,000 he says will fix the washing machine and his truck. He’s won points too that he’s redeemed for an air compressor and cooking pans.

He’s hoping his next Instant Replay win will be the top prize of $20,000 that went to Stanley Bobbitt of Florence last month.

Bobbitt enters his non-winning tickets using the Lottery’s free app available from Google Play or iTunes. Just like the Irmo and Greenville winners, the first person he told was his wife.

“I’d like to do something nice for my wife with the prize money,” he said.

After today, the Lottery’s next Instant Replay Drawing is planned for March 18. A $100,000 cash drawing is planned for September 2015.

The odds of winning a prize in the Instant Replay Promotion depends on the number of entries received for each drawing.
