Pelion Man’s Powerball® Ticket Has Near Brush with the Jackpot
2/17/2015 10:33:26 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (February 17, 2015) – A Pelion man cashed in a winning Powerball® ticket on his birthday, fitting since family birth dates he’s played for years nearly won him the multi-million-dollar prize. His ticket fell one number short of the jackpot and landed him at the second non-jackpot prize level.

“Well, I know what it feels like to come in second place,” the winner said. “And I’m not complaining.”

To the runner-up goes $50,000.

And the birthday boy couldn’t be happier.

It was his wife who asked about his Powerball® tickets, some dating back to November, that he keeps stashed in his glove box. His wife checked the tickets, and found one, a Powerball® ticket with PowerPlay® from Golden Pantry on Capital Way in Springfield, that matched four out of the five white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number to win the cash.

“I told her to check the ticket again,” the winner said. “Unbelievable.”

The couple is paying off their house with the winnings.

Odds of winning $50,000 with the purchase of PowerPlay® are 1 in 648,976.

For selling the claimed ticket, Golden Pantry received a commission of $500.

To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3.6 BILLION transferred to support education.
