Powerball® Jackpot Surges to $450 Million
2/9/2015 10:31:11 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (February 9, 2015) – After a year of lackluster jackpots, Powerball® is back in the headlines, this time with a $450 million jackpot drawing for Wednesday.

The game’s third largest jackpot ends a lengthy hiatus where jackpots struggled to reach past $300 million. And, if this jackpot is not won, the next one could rival the record $590 million set by Powerball® in May of 2013.

“As excitement and word of this jackpot spreads, with a cash payout of $304 million, we will start seeing players that don’t typically play, take a chance,” said Lottery’s Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea, who is reporting brisk ticket sales in South Carolina.

Bethea cautions the Lottery does not want see players overspending on tickets. “The odds of winning are the same if you buy one ticket or 20. So please, play responsibly,” Bethea emphasized.

Winning it all is a longshot at 1 in 176 million.

It’s been almost two years since South Carolina sold its last jackpot-winning ticket, that one worth $399 million. But even if the state does not sell the jackpot-winning ticket, it could still celebrate a $1 million or a $2 million winner. So check your tickets, there are eight ways to win in addition to the jackpot prize.

South Carolinians wanting to take a chance on Saturday’s $450 million jackpot must purchase a $2 ticket by 9:59 p.m. on Wednesday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing.

Good luck, South Carolina.
