12/5/2014 4:51:16 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (December 8, 2014) A spur of the moment lottery purchase won a Florence retiree $100,000.

He stopped at the Kangaroo Express #3152 on Palmetto St. to fill up his car and, as luck would have it, his wallet too.

Im an old man, Im a happy man and Im a grateful man, he said of the surprise win.

He won on a $5 Diamonds & Pearls ticket he scratched in his car parked at the pumps. He saw $100,000 and had to take off his cap and open the car door to get some air and cool off.

I almost forgot to pump gas, he said.

The Florence man claimed the first $100,000 prize in the Diamonds & Pearls game, leaving three top prizes remaining. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 540,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Kangaroo Express #3152 in Florence received a commission of $1,000.
