Losing Ticket Wins Blythewood Man $75,000

COLUMBIA, SC (July 18, 2014) – LeRoy Dunlap is taking a few days off from work to celebrate an unexpected $75,000 win from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

It came as a complete surprise to Dunlap, because he didn’t have a winning ticket.

What the Blythewood resident had were 10 losing Honda scratch-offs he’d entered into the Lottery’s Honda Second-Chance Promotion hoping to win an ATV. Instead, one of his non-winning tickets was selected from more than 200,000 entries to win the $75,000 grand prize.

“I thought you were scamming me,” he said, when he took the call from the Lottery at work.

“I’ve never won anything in my life,” Dunlap admitted.

He says his coworkers were eavesdropping outside his office, and heard the whole conversation. He drove four hours from his job in Georgia to the Lottery’s Columbia Claims Center to collect his prize.

“I’ll be debt free 15 minutes after I leave here,” he said.

The final drawing in the Honda Second-Chance Promotion was held on Tuesday, July 15. Five other players won Honda ATVs manufactured right here at the Honda SC plant in Timmonsville.
