Columbia Man Wins the Lottery on His Birthday
7/10/2014 9:32:28 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (July 10, 2014) – It was a happy birthday for a Columbia man, who celebrated with a $300,000 lottery win.

Five numbers he picked at random – 2, 12, 30, 31, and 32 – won him the cash in Monday’s Palmetto Cash 5 drawing.

“I was sitting on the couch watching the live drawing on television,” he told. “When I saw the numbers, I knew it couldn’t be real.”

The winner says watching the televised drawing is a ritual he and his wife share, but when his numbers were pulled his wife was in another room and missed it.

He hasn’t told her that he won yet.

“I didn’t want to tell her and look like a fool if it wasn’t real,” he said.

He’s already anticipating his wife’s reaction.

“She’ll either pass out or think I’m lying,” he said.

For selling the claimed Palmetto Cash 5 ticket, Sav A Ton Truck Stop in Columbia received a commission of $3,000.

The odds of winning $300,000 are 1 in 1,606,214.
