Irmo Hairdresser Wins $1 MILLION
4/17/2014 4:13:11 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (April 18, 2014) – Crystal Kendrick, a hairdresser from Irmo, got a call at work today from the South Carolina Education Lottery notifying her she won $1 MILLION.

She hung up the phone and cried.

Her customer in her chair overheard the conversation and was the first to congratulate the lottery’s newest millionaire. It wasn’t long before the whole salon knew too.

“It still hasn’t sunk in,” Kendrick told lottery officials.

Kendrick won the $1 million prize in the Lottery’s Money Money Millionaire Second-Chance Drawing. A non-winning lottery ticket she entered online was selected from more than 1.1 million entries to win.

She called her husband at work and told him she won. At first, he thought she was kidding, but when she repeated it for the fourth or fifth time he believed her.

“She is lucky,” he said.

A coworker drove Kendrick downtown to meet her husband at the Lottery’s claims office to collect her check for $680,000 after taxes.

“I’m going back to work,” she said. “I’ve got customers this afternoon.”

And she’s not quitting her job.

“I love doing hair,” she said.
This win marks Irmo’s second millionaire in two months. A man from Irmo won $1 million playing Millionaire Madness, a $10 scratch-off in March, but declined to release his name.
