COLUMBIA, SC (January 14, 2014) – Mike Polovitz is putting in a swimming pool.
“It’s frivolous,” admits Polovitz, but that’s how his family is celebrating a $200,000 lottery win.
He was at his local 7-Eleven on W. Front St. in Iva, where he says the Superstar Cash ticket was calling his name.
“Finally, I said to the clerk, ‘Give it to me,’” said Polovitz
He scratched the ticket in the store’s parking lot and ran back inside for clarification. The clerk told him to take the ticket to Columbia.
“I was pretty calm,” he said.
His wife couldn’t bring herself to believe it was real, but she took yesterday off from work to go with her husband to have the Lottery take a look at the ticket.
“I didn’t believe it until we got here,” she said.
“I’m hyped up now,” the winner said.
Odds of winning one of the two remaining top prizes of $200,000 in the $10 Superstar Cash game are 1 in 600,000.
For selling the claimed winning ticket, 7-Eleven #36849H in Iva received a commission of $2,000.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $3.2 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
