Eight Year Drought Ends for Upstate Numbers Player
1/13/2014 12:19:48 PM

COLUMBIA, SC (January 13, 2014) In six degree weather, an Upstate man ran out to his truck in his pajamas and bedroom shoes to look for his Palmetto Cash 5 ticket.

For eight years running, he'd been checking the evening's lottery results. Last Monday night, one of the coldest of the year, his wait was over.

His sentimental numbers, 5, 6, 7, 11 and 14, were drawn to win $200,000, enough to pay off his house with some left over to enjoy.

"I feel good," he said.

He's not abandoning his "lucky" numbers now.

"I'm sticking with them," he said.

Spending the extra buck to Power-Up doubled his $100,000 prize to $200,000.

Odds of winning $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,003,884.

For selling the claimed ticket, Jigar Food Mart in Lyman received a commission of $2,000.

To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3.2 billion transferred to support education.
