1/7/2014 10:42:36 AM
January 7, 2014 – Columbia, SC - Today the South Carolina Education Lottery celebrates its 12th anniversary. That’s right, lottery proceeds have been invested in educational programs for Palmetto State citizens since 2002. Communities throughout South Carolina have been able to take advantage of a wide range of learning initiatives provided by funds generated through the sale of lottery tickets.
These educational programs include more than 1.1 million lottery-funded scholarships and grants for South Carolina residents to attend a university or college here at home, as well as more than $687 million directed to K-12 education. Everything from white boards to computers to textbooks and ebooks have been purchased with the help of lottery funds. Since 2002, more than 895 school buses purchased with lottery proceeds have been used to transport our K-12 students to and from school. Lottery proceeds also benefit educational projects in our communities such as county libraries which have received more than $16 million to purchase books and technology, aid in building maintenance and expand digital media resources.

Statewide, more than $3.2 BILLION has been transferred in lottery proceeds to support educational programs and make an impact on learning opportunities in your community. The Lottery would like to thank its customers and retailers for their support in providing these funds. If the hard work and determination to support education through lottery sales were to be graded, lottery customers and retailers would receive an A+.
