$1 Million Powerball® Winner Mystery Solved
10/22/2013 9:08:10 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (October 22, 2013) – Nearly a month after a Powerball® ticket worth $1 million was sold in the small town of Hampton, its owner has come forward.

Last week a North Charleston man put to rest rumors as to the whereabouts of the $1 million winning ticket for the Wednesday, September 18 drawing that also produced a $399 million jackpot winner in South Carolina.

While some feared the unaccounted for ticket might have been lost or even thrown away, the winner says he was saving it in a stack of Powerball® tickets he intended to check but hadn’t.

When he realized he won, he celebrated by doing nothing.

He waited a week before turning the ticket in.

“I don’t feel any different,” the millionaire said to lottery officials. “I’m just me, and that’s not going to change.”

He hasn’t made any plans for the winnings off the $2 ticket he purchased from the Tiger Express on Elm. St. W. in Hampton that matched all five white ball numbers drawn (7, 10, 22, 32, 35, PB: 19). Had the red Powerball® number matched, a share of the jackpot would have been his.

“I’ve never won anything in my life,” he said, until this.

The Tiger Express Hampton received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $3.2 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
