COLUMBIA, SC (August 9, 2013) – A retired Bluffton couple’s nest egg grew by $200,000 this week when they claimed the top prize in the Carolina Cash 6 game.
The $200,000 taxes paid winning ticket was bought from the Food Lion on Oaktie Village Dr.
“I almost fainted,” said the husband, who was home alone when he discovered his numbers were a perfect match for those drawn Monday evening (4, 5, 6, 10, 23 and 28).
On cue the phone rang and it was his wife.
“He said, ‘I think we won on the lottery ticket,’ and I could tell by the sound of his voice it was for more than $10,” his wife said.
Recently retired, the couple calls the win a lifesaver.
“I’ve been playing the Lottery for what feels like 40 years,” said the winner, who still can’t believe a $2 purchase at the neighborhood grocery store won him $200,000 taxes paid.
A six-number game, Carolina Cash 6’s top prize includes Federal and state taxes which are withheld to net $200,000.
Odds of winning the $200,000 TAXES PAID top prize are 1 in 920,227.
Food Lion #2691 in Bluffton received a commission of $2,951.18 for selling the claimed ticket.
To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3.1 BILLION transferred to support education.
