COLUMBIA, SC (March 13, 2013) – A Myrtle Beach woman can count on one hand the number of times she’s played the Lottery.
The last and undoubtedly most memorable time was this past weekend at the Express Mart on S. Kings Hwy. in Myrtle Beach. There she spent $3 on a Powerball® quick pick with PowerPlay®.
Sunday morning her husband woke her with news they won $2 million.
“She almost cried,” he said.
He wiped a few tears from his cheek yesterday when they were presented with the check.
Their immediate family knows of the win and that’s all.
Their son was the first to point out had the red Powerball® number matched the $150 million jackpot would have been theirs.
“I’m thankful for anything,” the winner said.
The millionaire overcame the 1 in 5 million plus odds to match the first five white ball numbers drawn on Saturday, March 9 (10, 37, 40, 46, and 52, PB: 12). She spent the extra $1 for PowerPlay® increasing her would be $1 million prize to $2 million.
The couple plans to give anonymously to area churches and the local food pantry, and then pay off their home.
The Express Mart received a commission of $20,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $3 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
