Grocery Trip Gives Summerville Woman Something to Talk About
2/27/2013 10:26:24 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (February 27, 2013) – For a Summerville lottery winner telling friends and family she won was as much fun as winning.

“I wanted to tell my husband first,” she said.

She called him from work to disclose that eight years of playing Palmetto Cash 5 had finally paid off. A $2 quick pick purchased while grocery shopping at the Mr. K Piggly Wiggly on Central Ave. for the Tuesday, February 19 drawing (16, 24, 29, 35, and 36) won her $200,000.

Next, she whispered the news to a couple of her coworkers.

She proceeded to make a flip book that read “I won $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5” and surprised her daughter with the message later that evening.

The next day she notified the rest of the office.

“It really hasn’t sunk in yet,” the winner told lottery officials when she cashed in the winning ticket.

Saying “I won the Lottery,” takes some getting used to.

For selling the claimed Palmetto Cash 5 ticket, Mr. K Piggly Wiggly 130 in Summerville received a commission of $2,000.

The odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 1,003,884.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.9 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
