COLUMBIA, SC (December 19, 2012) – A Walterboro lottery winner’s gift for his nephew won’t fit under the Christmas tree. Santa will have to park the new truck outside.
The truck is the nephews reward for scratching his uncle’s Red Hot Cash ticket while the two were traveling Interstate 26 together after Thanksgiving. The uncle pulled off the road when his nephew handed him the ticket. At first it looked to him like he won $2,000.
“Heck no, that’s $200,000,” the uncle said to his nephew, who already knew.
Days later the two were back on Interstate 26, this time headed to Columbia to cash in the winning ticket.
“He’s a great guy,” the nephew told lottery officials when he heard his uncle’s plans for the cash.
As of this release, four top prizes remain in the $10 Red Hot Cash game. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 500,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, Kangaroo Express #3441 in Prosperity received a commission of $2,000.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.9 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
