COLUMBIA, SC (December 12, 2012) – An Anderson man’s wife sent him to Bi-Lo to pick up a roast chicken for dinner. For helping out, she let him buy a lottery ticket with the leftover change.
He spent $10 on a Fire & Ice scratch-off and screamed when the ticket won him $200,000.
His wife saw the ticket and turned red and started breathing heavy.
“I thought I would never win,” the husband admitted to lottery officials awaiting his check at the Lottery’s Claims Center in Columbia.
The winner said he and his wife had been looking at houses and were disappointed when they realized they needed to save more for a down payment.
“When we didn’t win the big Powerball® jackpot a few weeks ago, I prayed please, one day let us win $200,000 so we can buy a house,” the husband said.
His prayers were answered.
“We can’t believe we were so lucky,” he said.
As of this release, one top prize remains in the $10 Fire & Ice game. Odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 500,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, Bi-Lo #626 in Anderson received a commission of $2,000.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.9 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
