COLUMBIA, SC (December 4, 2012) – A Florence couple came oh so close to winning last week’s much talked about $587.5 million Powerball® jackpot. Their ticket matched every single number drawn. Too bad the Powerball® number was in the wrong place.
They’ll settle for the $1 million Match 5 prize and the four bucks made for matching the red Powerball® number on a different line of their ticket for the November 28, 2012 drawing (5, 16, 22, 23 and 29 PB: 6).
“We were in awe,” said the husband setting the scene at 2 a.m. when the couple realized they were millionaires. “We must have looked at the ticket 10 times and couldn’t go back to sleep.”
Neither play the Lottery often, but the more than half-a-billion dollar jackpot prompted them to buy a ticket the day of the drawing. Cruizers XII on N. Williston Rd. in Florence sold them the winning ticket, and the clerk asked the husband if he wanted to add PowerPlay®.
“What’s the dumbest thing I ever said?” confessed the husband. “No, I don’t want that PowerPlay®.”
At the time, he didn’t expect to beat the1 in 5,153,633 odds to win $1 million. If he had it to do over again, he would gladly pay the extra $1 for PowerPlay® to increase their $1 million prize to $2 million.
“How lucky were we!” he exclaimed. A Powerball® ticket has made retirement planning worry free.
Cruizers XII in Florence received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
