Gaffney Woman Wears Herself Out Looking at $100,000 Winning Ticket

COLUMBIA, SC (October 26, 2012) – A Gaffney woman can’t take her eyes off her winning lottery ticket.

It’s been over a week since she won $100,000 on a scratch-off, and her infatuation with the ticket hasn’t waned.

At night she crawls out of bed to check on the ticket. During the day she peeks inside her purse to make sure the ticket is there and the numbers haven’t changed.

“I’ve been jumping around like a cat and hanging onto my purse for dear life,” she said when she arrived at the Lottery’s Columbia Claims Center to collect her winnings.

The winner told lottery officials she was in the checkout line at Food Lion with a gallon of milk when she spotted the $100,000 Cash ticket at customer service. She scratched the ticket at home relaxing in her recliner.

“I jumped straight up and fell back down into the chair,” she said describing the moment she won. She made her way to the closest lamp and put her glasses on to study the ticket.

“I wore myself out looking at that ticket,” she said.

The winner claimed the last top prize in the $100,000 Cash game. Odds of winning the top prize were 1 in 480,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Food Lion #63 in Gaffney received a commission of $1,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.8 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
