COLUMBIA, SC (October 18, 2012) – A Columbia woman broke with tradition and the move paid off.
The loyal Powerball® player, tired of not matching enough numbers to win a prize, went with an instant ticket and matched one number to win $200,000.
The winner told lottery officials she putting the kids to bed and sat down to scratch the ticket she purchased from the News Stand located inside the Columbia Place Mall. She said to herself before putting coin to paper, “Let this one be a big prize.”
She got what she wanted.
The $10 Platinum Payout 25X ticket won her family the top prize.
“I’ve been under a lot of pressure,” the winner told lottery officials the day after cashing in her ticket. “My life has been upside down.”
The lottery win has her feeling hopeful again. She wants the money to last, so she hasn’t touched a cent yet. She’s going to take her time and start by paying off her mortgage.
“This is a blessing,” she said.
As of this release, four top prizes remain in the Platinum Payout 25X game. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 500,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, News Stand in Columbia received a commission of $2,000.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.8 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
