COLUMBIA, SC (August 28, 2012) – After vacationing in Myrtle Beach, Eradio Marquez returned home to New York only to turn around and drive the 12 hours back to South Carolina.

For 720 miles he rode with his son and a South Carolina Education Lottery ticket valued at $100,000.

He won on a $5 Pure Gold scratch-off purchased from a Kangaroo Express on Hwy. 17 in North Myrtle Beach. He told lottery officials he’d like to visit South Carolina again next year.

The odds of winning $100,000 are 1 in 480,000. As of this release, all five $100,000 winning tickets in the Pure Gold game have been claimed.

For selling the claimed ticket, Kangaroo Express #3069 in North Myrtle Beach received a commission of $1,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.8 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
