COLUMBIA, SC (August, 24, 2012) - What was a man doing shopping in a store that sells wigs, fake nails and ladies shoes? As it happens, he was buying a lottery ticket.
Hair City Supply in the Bi-Lo shopping center on Dorchester Rd. in North Charleston is not your typical lottery retailer, but that’s why players, especially men, like it. While the shop caters exclusively to women, men have found Hair City Supply to be a convenient place to quickly get in and out to play the Lottery.
The man in question did not wish to be identified, but he bought a $5 scratch-off from the beauty supply store and when he got home discovered he won $155,555.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I had to look at it twice.”
The winner told lottery officials he buys lottery tickets every so often, so he’ll be back to visit with the ladies at Hair City Supply.
The odds of winning $155,555 are 1 in 600,000.
The North Charleston man claimed the last top prize in the $5 Fantastic 5’s game.
For selling the claimed ticket, Hair City Supply received a commission of $1,555.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.8 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
