COLUMBIA, SC (August 1, 2012) – A Greenville man rode around with a $200,000 winning lottery ticket in his truck for two days before realizing it.
He confessed he has a bad habit of tossing tickets into his truck’s console and forgetting about them.
His wife is glad he remembered the Palmetto Cash 5 ticket he purchased from the Garden Spot Food Store on Cedar Lane Rd. in Greenville for the July 23 drawing. The ticket matched all five numbers drawn (9, 14, 30, 31, and 36). Paying the extra $1 for Power-Up doubled his would be $100,000 top prize to $200,000.
“Boy, I can’t believe this,” he said awaiting the check.
His wife had a similar reaction when she heard him say: “I’ll give it to my wife; she’ll do something with it.”
The odds of winning $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,003,884.
For selling the claimed ticket, Garden Spot Food Store in Greenville received a commission of $2,000.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.8 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
