SCEL Sales for the week ending March 10
3/11/2002

Columbia, SC: The following report represents the financial activity for the South Carolina Education Lottery's (SCEL) ninth week of operations ending March 10, 2002. This information is based on data provided by Scientific Games International. Estimated ticket sales to date are over $154.1 million including Pick 3.

More than $1.4 million of the total sales figure is from Pick 3 tickets. "Our sales are ahead of what we were forecasted to do", says Tony Cooper, SCEL's Chief Operating Officer. "We are continuing to out-perform the industry". South Carolina is commonly compared to Kentucky, because it is similar in population. Kentucky's Pick 3 sales in its first week of operation were $326,000. The SCEL almost doubled that in the first day.

As anticipated, instant ticket sales have leveled-off some, however sales are still strong. "We're in a cooling off period", says Cooper. "This is expected as we introduce new games and our lottery matures".
